Defendant charged with assaulting Kent Police officer

A defendant has been charged with seriously assaulting a police officer at Medway Police Station. Samuel Tesefay is alleged to have assaulted a Kent Police detective at the station’s front counter at around 3pm on Friday 10 May 2019. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. Tesefay, of Thicket Road, Penge, was arrested on suspicion of assault and has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The 27-year-old appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 13 May 2019. At the hearing he was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday 10 June 2019.
