Civil Nuclear Constabulary Welcomes New Assistant Chief Constable Kerry Smith

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) has officially announced the appointment of Kerry Smith as the new Assistant Chief Constable (ACC). Kerry Smith brings an extensive background with over 30 years of policing experience to her new role at the CNC.

ACC Smith’s law enforcement career spans several UK police forces, notably Nottinghamshire Police and Leicestershire Police, where she has served in various capacities up to Assistant Chief Constable. Her considerable experience includes a recent tenure at Leicestershire Police, where she was responsible for Specialist Operations and acted as the Regional Firearms Lead. Smith is not only an experienced Strategic and Tactical Firearms Commander but has also been an Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO).

Expressing her enthusiasm for her new position, ACC Smith stated, “I am delighted to have joined the CNC and am really looking forward to working with all my new colleagues across England and Wales. Working for an infrastructure police force with a national footprint represents a new chapter for me in my policing career. I am very much looking forward to supporting our officers and staff in their delivery of our vital mission to protect critical infrastructure and keep the public safe.”

Chief Constable Simon Chesterman welcomed her with high praise, noting the rigorous selection process that led to her appointment. “It was my pleasure to welcome Kerry to the CNC. She went through a very rigorous selection process to get this role and I congratulate her on her appointment. The role attracted a lot of very talented and exceptional people, so Kerry has really earned it,” he remarked.

Chesterman further added, “Kerry’s enthusiasm and experience will be invaluable to the CNC as we pursue our ambitions for the future of the organization, and I look forward to working alongside her.”

ACC Smith’s appointment is seen as a significant boost for the CNC as it continues to fulfill its crucial role in protecting the United Kingdom’s civil nuclear infrastructure. Her leadership is expected to greatly enhance the operational capabilities and strategic vision of the CNC.
