Bristol Suitcase Murders: Trial Hears of Horrific Double Killing and Dismemberment

A man accused of brutally killing and dismembering a couple in London, before transporting their remains to Bristol’s iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, is now standing trial at the Old Bailey.

Yostin Andres Mosquera, 35, faces charges of murdering Albert Alfonso, 62, and Paul Longworth, 71, at their flat in Scotts Road, Shepherd’s Bush on July 8, 2024. He denies both murders but has admitted the manslaughter of Mr Alfonso, claiming a loss of self-control.

“Decapitated and Dismembered”

Prosecutors allege Mosquera killed Mr Longworth with a hammer before fatally stabbing Mr Alfonso multiple times, then dismembered and decapitated their bodies. Horrifyingly, the remains were stored in a chest freezer and later packed into two suitcases.

The jury heard that Mosquera calmly filmed the aftermath of the killings, even singing and dancing beside Mr Alfonso’s dying body. Prosecutor Deanna Heer KC described Mosquera’s actions as “strategic and premeditated”, disputing any claim of loss of control.

Attempted Theft and Fake Alibi

Following the murders, Mosquera is accused of attempting to steal from the victims, accessing their banking information and transferring money to his own accounts. The court heard he made several cash withdrawals and sent fraudulent messages posing as Mr Alfonso.

The prosecution revealed chilling evidence from Mosquera’s computer, which showed searches like “serial killers of London and browsing Facebook Marketplace for chest freezers prior to the murders.

Clifton Suspension Bridge Discovery

On July 10, a cyclist spotted Mosquera with two suitcases near the Clifton Suspension Bridge. After noticing liquid leaking from one case, bridge staff alerted police. Officers discovered human remains inside and traced the origin to the victims’ flat.

Mosquera fled the scene but was later arrested near Bristol Temple Meads Station in the early hours of July 13.

Public Reaction and Ongoing Trial

The horrifying case has left communities in both London and Bristol reeling. Neighbours described the victims as a “friendly couple who seemed genuinely fond of each other.”

The trial continues at the Old Bailey, where Mosquera faces a full trial for the double murder, with prosecutors arguing he committed the killings in a calculated bid for financial gain.
