Arrests Made in Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation in Calderdale

Three men have been arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into non-recent allegations of child sexual exploitation in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.

The men, aged 39, 38, and 38, were taken into custody from addresses in Halifax on Wednesday, 11 September. They have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The investigation relates to allegations of sexual abuse against one female victim that are believed to have taken place in Calderdale between 2006 and 2008.

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Smith of Calderdale District stated, “We are committed to tackling child sexual exploitation and abuse. It is an abhorrent crime which affects the most vulnerable in our society.”

She added, “These arrests follow a comprehensive investigation by the Calderdale Non-Recent Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Unit. West Yorkshire Police has significant experience in investigating both recent and non-recent cases of child sexual exploitation. We have worked closely with the Crown Prosecution Service to secure a number of successful prosecutions in recent years.”

DCI Smith urged anyone who has been a victim of child sexual abuse or exploitation, or who has any information about potential victims or perpetrators, to come forward and report it. “Every report is taken seriously and will be fully investigated, with the goal of safeguarding victims and bringing those responsible to justice.”

West Yorkshire Police are continuing their investigation and are appealing to the public for any further information that may assist in their enquiries.
