Last year officers from Rugby Proactive CID investigated information that suggested Craig Gallagher was dealing drugs.
On 20 May, proactive CID executed a warrant at his home in Dyson Close where they found more than £3,500 in cash, mobile phones and a quantity of drugs including Xanax tablets and over 80g of cocaine.
He was arrested and subsequently charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine, possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class A – cocaine, and possession with intent to supply a controlled drug of class C.
Appearing at Warwick Crown Court on Friday (12 January), the 45-year-old pleaded guilty to both offences and was sentenced to 32 months in prison.
Following his conviction, a confiscation investigation has started to determine the defendant’s benefit from criminal conduct and the value of a potential confiscation order.
Detective Constable Becky Naughton said: “Although this is Gallagher’s first offence, the severity of the sentence just goes to show how seriously drug offences are taken by us and by the courts.
“The team truly hope he takes the time in prison to reflect on some of the poor life choices he’s made and he’s able to turn his life around when he gets out.
“We’re all too aware of the misery drugs can cause – not just to those who take them but to those in the local community as well.
We will proactively target people we believe to be involved in drugs and use the powers we have to make sure their activity is disrupted.
“Proactive CID are delighted with the outcome and hope it serves as a deterrent to Gallagher and others who try to profit from drugs.
“I also hope it helps to reassure the public we will thoroughly investigate all drug activity so we can bring offenders to justice and continue to protect our communities from harm.”
