A 27-year-old Man Arrested Earlier This Week Following A Firearms Incident In Doncaster Has Been Charged

James Ridgley, of St Mary’s Road, appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was remanded into custody until his next appearance on 13 December.

The charge relates to an incident on Monday 7 November, when armed officers were called to a report of a man armed with a gun inside a shop on Rockingham Road, Wheatley.

A police firearm was discharged and Ridgley suffered an injury that required hospital treatment. He was released from the hospital the same day and brought into police custody, after being arrested.

The IOPC has confirmed that an independent investigation into the police firearm discharge is underway.
