Man Arrested After Fatal South Woodham Ferrers Crash That Killed Two Women
Police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with a fatal three-vehicle crash in South Woodham Ferrers that tragically claimed the lives of two women.
Emergency services were called to Burnham Road, Rettendon, at approximately 11:30pm on Monday 14 July, following reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles.
Two Lives Lost
According to Essex Police, the victims were both occupants of a white Ford Fiesta. Despite the rapid response of paramedics:
- A passenger in her 90s was pronounced dead at the scene.
- The driver, a woman in her 50s, was rushed to hospital but sadly died from her injuries.
Arrest Made
A 36-year-old man from Witham has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody for questioning as investigations continue.
Specialist road policing officers have carried out detailed forensic work at the scene, and the road was closed for several hours overnight to allow for investigation and recovery.
Witness Appeal
Police are now urging anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam footage from the Burnham Road area around the time of the crash to come forward.
“We are particularly interested in any video that could help us understand the sequence of events leading up to this tragic incident,” said a spokesperson for Essex Police.
