Fire Crews Called to Tackle Flat Fire in Southampton

Fire crews from Hightown and Eastleigh have been called to a block of flats in Southampton after a fire broke out in a flat this afternoon. Crews where called just after 3pm on Monday afternoon. It is understood that crews are tackling the blaze on the forth floor of the multi dwelling block of flats on Wharncliffe Road Woolston in the city. The road has been closed off by Police and local traffic diversion have been put in place. The flat sustained fire and smoke damage to there were no injuries reported. Firefighters from Hightown and Eastleigh attended the blaze, which broke out shortly before 3pm. Hightown watch manager Richard Mount said: “It was an electrical fire and the occupier was out. There was not a working smoke alarm in the property, which means the fire could have been a lot worse and gone undetected.
