The fatal blaze was reported just before 1am on Tuesday 24th January 2023 at a property on Rotherfield Street.

The London Fire Brigade sent four appliances and 25 firefighters to the scene.
Police and Paramedics also attended the incident despite best efforts those involved could not be saved.

On Tuesday morning, a strong presence remained from both the
police and fire service including several forensics officers from the LFB fire investigation unit

The London ambulance service despatched three Emergency crews, one Rapid Response Paramedic and double crewed ambulance and the London Air Ambulance were also tasked to the incident.

The Met Police have been approached for more information into the joint investigation

A spokesman for the LFB Said: Sadly, a man has died following a flat fire on Rotherfield Street in Islington last night.

A four-roomed flat on the ground floor of a residential block was destroyed by fire. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued a man, who was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews. Another man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The Brigade was called at 12.50am and the incident was over for firefighters by 2.21am. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Islington, Shoreditch and Euston fire stations attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
