Police detain two men in Ryde after suspicious activities involving a red van

Police on the Isle of Wight have arrested two men after a red Mercedes Sprinter van was reported acting suspiciously. The Van is understood to have travelled over on the Wightlink Portsmouth to Fishbourne route to carry out thefts in and around the Isle of Wight.   A number of concerned residents spotted the men acting suspiciously and called Hampshire Constabulary.  Response officers managed to find the men and carry out a stop and search on them at the premier shop in St Vincent Road in RydePolice have since detained the pair who are assisting Police with there enquiries. Resident have previously reported that the van been going around stealing out of peoples’ front gardens, which is illegal, you need the permission of the owner to take anything away, even if it looks like junk waiting to go to the tip.  It has been cruising around Sandown, Lake and Green Lane area in Shanklin. Hampshire Polic confirmed that two men were arrested after officers stopped a Mercedes Sprinter at Broadway Crescent, Binstead. A 35-year-old man and a 36-year-old man ­— both from London ­— have been arrested on suspicion of theft and are both currently in police custody. Victims looking to retrieve their stolen possessions are advised to call 101, quoting the reference number 44190232718.
