As schools in England break up for the summer, millions of families are expected to hit the roads, leading to potential congestion on major routes. The Port of Dover has also warned of extended border checks, with wait times of up to two-and-a-half hours.

Forecasters predict that hilly areas of northern England, Northern Ireland, southern areas of Scotland, and Wales could experience rainfall of up to 80mm on Saturday. This amount of rain is equivalent to a typical month’s rainfall in July, which is around 88mm in the UK.

Meanwhile, in Europe, temperatures are expected to rise again next week, reaching the late 30s and early 40s Celsius in some areas. However, Greece is currently grappling with a major wildfire west of Athens, triggered by evening winds. Evacuations have been carried out, and the Greek authorities remain on high alert as a new heatwave moves across the country.

In the UK, the Met Office warns of wet conditions on Saturday, potentially causing travel disruptions, while Sunday will bring a risk of thunderstorms. Showers and a chance of thunderstorms are expected to continue into the early part of next week, with temperatures in the low 20s Celsius in the South and East.

As holidaymakers embark on their summer vacations, it is advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and allow extra time for travel due to potential delays caused by heavy rain and thunderstorms.
