Police remind Dog owners about Livestock worrying

Think livestock ? – think LEAD! If you see or suspect there is livestock in a field, put your dog on a lead. If a dog’s natural instinct to chase livestock kicks in, it could be too late before you even realise anything is wrong. Livestock worrying is a criminal offence and the penalty can be 6 months imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £1000. Police are asking dog owners to act responsibly and ensure they keep their dogs on a lead around livestock. This will prevent any risk of livestock worrying occurring. ❌ Unacceptable excuses for livestock worrying include ?❌ : ? “He’s never done anything like this before.” ? “She’s normally so well behaved.” ? “He’s only little what harm could he do?” ? “But she’s really good with kids.” ? “I have control of my dog even when off the lead.” ? The sheep were startled and ran off so he chased it, it wasn’t his fault.” Respect the beautiful countryside we live in and support local farmers by keeping dogs on leads around livestock.
